What to expect at your 3 hour papercut workshop?

My papercut workshops are held at Walford Mill Crafts in the heart of idyllic Wimborne in Dorset. Your workshop begins with a warm welcome at 10am where I’ll introduce the basics of papercutting – the tools you’ll be using and the ideal weights of paper to cut. You’ll then work through a simple practise sheet to get your scalpel skills up to speed before embarking on your main design which you choose on the day from a gorgeous selection of exclusive designs. You’ll learn about the differences between a positive, negative and ‘half and half’ templates and the best way to embark on cutting each type.

We spend the rest of the workshop happily chatting while cutting our papercuts and we really get to know each other during the course of the workshop. They are always a lot of fun, and I pride myself on making everyone feel welcome, safe and relaxed. You won’t want to leave!

Will I finish my papercut?

Al the designs available to you to cut during the workshop have been designed for you to cut in the 3 hour time slot. Many workshoppers finish on time, some even finish early and if that’s you, you’re welcome to purchase another template from me and get cracking on a second papercut. If you don’t finish during the workshop then your work will be placed loose on a piece of card and inside a composable cello bag to keep it safe on the journey home.

What happens after I finish my papercut?

When you have finished your beautiful template, you have a choice to either mount it onto a complementary colour which you can take home to frame it yourself. Or you have the option to buy a floating wood effect frame from me and I can frame it for you at the end of the workshop for £20. Always wonderful to take a framed masterpiece home that YOU created!

You’ll also be given a folder with print outs of all the things you have learned, plus information on how to take your new hobby further and tips for framing. The folder also includes a voucher for a free papercut template download from my website. Boom!

Can I come on my own?

Absolutely! I will keep the conversation flowing and make sure you’re not alone even if you arrive on your own and don’t know anyone else. We arrive as strangers and leave as friends. Let me know if you are anxious and I’ll make sure to seat you next to me so you’re not alone.

Can I buy the tools from you?

Absolutely! If you have fallen for the relaxing charms of papercutting, I bring a selection of things to buy after your workshop. You’ll find scalpel sets, Fiskars swivel scalpels, A4 cutting mats as well as copies of my book ‘Papercutting Tips and Techniques‘.
